Professional Year Program Overview
The Professional Year Program is a professional development initiative designed for international graduates in Australia, combining formal learning with hands-on work experience.
This program aims to enhance the abilities of Engineering, IT, and Accounting students, enabling them to pursue their desired careers. It acts as a bridging course, allowing students to complete a 12-week internship in an industry relevant to their field of study.
The overall program spans 44 weeks, with the internship component serving to acclimatize students to workplace culture. This experience helps them develop essential skills, including communication skills, understanding of workplace culture, technical knowledge relevant to their roles, and teamwork skills.
The Professional Year Program is an excellent opportunity to kickstart your career in Australia and offers the additional benefit of earning points towards a permanent residency visa application (GSM visa).
Basic Eligibility :
To qualify for the program, you must:
- - Have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate (Bachelor or Master) award in Australia in Accounting, IT, or Engineering.
- - Hold or have applied for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485, either stream) with at least 12 months validity; or
- - Hold an eligible Secondary Visa with work and study rights, also with at least 12 months validity.
- - Provide evidence of English language proficiency (minimum score of 6 in each band of IELTS).
- - Provide a valid skills assessment from a relevant professional association.

Streams :
The Skill Migration Internship Program - Accounting (SMIPA) is available to all graduates who have completed at least two years of a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Accounting in Australia. This program is designed to assist you in developing your career in Accounting through job placements.
IT Professional Year Program :
This program is endorsed and developed by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). It provides recent IT graduates with the opportunity to gain practical skills and training through a 12-week internship program.
Engineering Professional Year Program :
The Professional Year in Engineering program is conducted by various providers in association with the Australian Government. This program is designed to enhance the skills of recent engineering graduates.
